There are moments where you stop and realize just how special a place truly is. For me, that place has always been Hole #4 at Gulf Hills Golf Club in Ocean Springs, Mississippi—a quiet, perfectly framed slice of the Mississippi Gulf Coast that becomes pure magic the moment the sun breaks over the horizon.
I’ve lived in the Gulf Hills neighborhood for years. Nearly every morning, I driveby , look toward the course, and watch the sky begin to glow behind the oaks. And every time, without fail,
I think to myself, “One day, I’m going to fly my FPV drone straight through that sunrise.”This flight has been on my personal wish list for a long time, and this week, I finally made it happen.
What I captured is something that can only exist here—where the coastal air is cool, the light hits the water just right, and the world feels calm before the day begins.
Why Hole #4 Is a Sunrise Icon on the Mississippi Gulf Coast
If you’ve ever played Gulf Hills or walked the neighborhood during the early morning hours, you already know why Hole #4 stands out. Unlike many golf holes tucked among trees or facing westward, this one points directly east—meaning it receives the first true light of the day.
As the sun rises, the fairway glows. The pond at the tee box mirrors the sky like glass. The tall pines frame the horizon in perfect symmetry.
It's not just scenic—it’s cinematic.
Even before flying FPV, I knew this location offered one of the most beautiful sunrise views on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Locals know it. Golfers feel it. And for anyone who loves the quiet magic of early morning along the coast, Hole #4 delivers an experience that’s hard to match.
The FPV Flight: A Sunrise Story
FPV flying is part art, part adrenaline, and part intuition. It's about reading your environment—light, space, movement—and finding a natural flow through it. For this mission, the goal was simple:
Capture Hole #4 exactly as it feels at sunrise. Not staged. Not forced. Just pure, natural beauty.
I arrived just before first light. The birds were starting to wake up, the dew still clung to the fairway, and the sky carried that faint blue-gray tone that only lasts a few minutes. As the first orange streak appeared along the horizon, I armed the quad.
The moment I launched, the world opened up.
The drone slipped low over the tee, catching the reflection of the sun before rising to reveal the full fairway. Golden light spilled across the grass, stretching long shadows from the trees. The colors were soft and warm—exactly what makes the Mississippi Gulf Coast sunrise so iconic.
From above, the layout of the hole became even more impressive—the gentle curve, the angles, the elevation. Everything that makes Gulf Hills beautiful on foot becomes even more striking from the air. It felt like the course had been waiting for this flight.
Gulf Hills Golf Club: A Hidden Coastal Gem Worth Showcasing
If you’re from Ocean Springs, you already know that Gulf Hills isn’t just a golf course—it’s a part of the lifestyle. The neighborhood, the water, the history, the nature trails…it all ties together. But at sunrise, it becomes something else entirely.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast is full of incredible spots for photography and drone videography, but Gulf Hills offers a unique blend of:
Coastal landscapes
Historic Southern charm
Waterfront views
Tall pines and oak-lined fairways
Quiet, peaceful morning energy
Hole #4 captures all of this in one location. It’s a reminder of why so many people love living, golfing, and exploring along the Gulf Coast—because beauty isn’t something you search for; it’s something you wake up to.
Behind the Scenes: What It Means to Capture Local Beauty
This flight wasn’t just a project—it was personal. When you live in a place long enough, you begin to understand its rhythms. You know the best light, the best angles, the best time of year. And when you finally get the chance to capture it, it becomes more than content—it becomes storytelling.
Through FPV, I’m able to show people the places I love from the perspective that made me fall in love with them in the first place. And for anyone who has spent time on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, you know how much sunrise defines this region.
It’s peaceful.It’s slow.It’s honest.It’s home.
